Home Sweet Sleep Number

So yesterday when we were at the ranch (pictures to follow) we were asked about our plans for the night. Hearing that we planned to spend the night in a Motel 6 in Vallejo, Trenton said that it would probably be OK as long as we were careful not to leave any valuables in the car. Well shoot: we didn’t plan to unload the entire Element. Tom and I discussed it on our way back down the hill: we didn’t have any particular plans for Saturday, and we were sore and missing our new bed at home.* So we pulled into a parking lot, pulled out a computer and got online, and canceled our reservation in Vallejo.

It was only about 5 p.m. Garmin said that we could be home about 10:30 if we wanted to just head north. We weren’t so sure that we wanted to go that far, but thought that we would start driving and maybe stop at the Motel 6 in Willows, where we have stayed before and we know has a good dog-walking area. It turns out that Garmin did not allow for the old person driving 35 mph on the road up by Lake Berryessa, who we were unable to pass on the twisty road in the dark. She thought it would be the quickest way but this time she was wrong.

Anyway, we got to Willows around 7:30. The wind in the valley was just buffeting-Element-blow-you-over howling. The only rooms available were upstairs. The idea of walking dogs in the cold wind and then carrying everything upstairs . . . mmm . . . better to just proceed onward. We stopped for Starbucks and to feed dogs in Red Bluff and made it home just before midnight.

Did I mention how much we love the sleep number bed that was delivered on November 2nd?

So, back to the land of morning ice, though the fog has burned off and now it’s beautiful. I’ll let Pie and Molly out to play in a bit.

Other family members who were not pleased at all that we were gone.  They only have access to the “dog room” and much prefer the living room and the bedroom.

* Leslie and Terry are to be commended on their ability to sleep on the (small, hard) mattress in the motorhome for three months. We do appreciate the hospitality, nevertheless!
