And it’s 14° Fahrenheit outside. Yes, fourteen! It doesn’t get that cold here.

I did more than minor housecleaning on the blog yesterday and completely changed the theme. So far I like it, and I’ve done no code-editing so far except to put the copyright notice on the bottom. Colors and heading are driven from the control panel without having to delve into the css file.

One thing I’m still playing with is seeing how it works having a static home page with the blog under a separate link. I like it if the rss feed still works for updates to FB, etc.

And I really like the Widget Context plugin that allows you to have different things in the sidebar on different pages. It has let me move the blogroll to a different page and to go to a two-column format which will allow me to show larger pictures.

Thanks for the tip on the widget plugin. I’ll get Mark to install it on ours so I can have the foodie stuff only on the foodie page.

People with links to the blog might want to change the link to
http://c-myste.com/?page_id=2696 to avoid the front page.

I’m not sure about a horizontal screen size problem. Usually wordpress just handles that depending on screen resolution and window size. But it could be an IE compatibility issue as I haven’t tried it yet.

In which case I go back to “best when viewed with Mozilla Firefox”.

It works fine on IE8 (shudder) as well as with Firefox.

It’s not an explorer issue – in fact I can see it better at work now (using IE) and on my phone (using Safari).

Um, so yeah it’s warmed UP to 14 degrees now here (10:15 am) but we have a nasty wind, they were saying about -15 with windchill. I don’t want to know how cold it was when I first got up

At least when it’s this cold it’s not snowing.

I like that it’s loading a lot faster, and like how you’ve set things up! I’m still getting notified of the new posts (which is most important to me) and so if I have to make an extra click until I fix the link, I’m ok with it! I like it!

I was going to make the exact same comments as Traci about it loading faster, and the notifications still appearing (very important). I don’t know if I love the blue on blue, but it’s not the end of the world, and viewing it has been no problem. Oh yeah… only a tech would go to work without a shower. Yuck. I can’t believe how cold it is there.

Would it make sense to have the current blog entry on the home page?

There’s not actually an easy way to do that outside of making the home page being a blog entry, and then deleting that entry and posting it as a blog entry. But that would lose any comments that went with it.

The home page is a “page” as opposed to a “post”. Wordpress handles them differently.

If you link to the page id (see above) you’ll skip the home page just as before.

Ah. I have put together a couple of Wordpress blog pages, but have not gone into it in any depth.

I think that the main purpose of a home page is to greet new viewers, and I think your new page does that very well.

Now, my next problem. What am I supposed to click on to submit this comment? There is no obvious button. There is the word Comment and another word cancelar at the bottom of the comment area.

Yes, click “comment”. Note the “cancelar”; the person who wrote this theme is not a native English speaker. I’ll play with the css code some more this weekend and probably change the word “comment” to “submit” and “cancelar” to “cancel” or “delete”.
