Funny faces: Flyer & Delta

Dora: “What are you doing to my sister?”

Delta: “My mouf is Big“.  Dora: “Toy is more interesting.”

Flyer to Delta: “I won’t really hurt you.  See, kiss.”

“I’ll get you back!”

“I have TEEFS!

“Everybody bite the brown one.”

Spectator: why we watch carefully when the puppies are small.

At the end of the day: friends.

I feel more road trips coming on . . .

Ours!

We brought her home last night about 6:30. I drove ahead in the Element to unlock the gate. Just after I passed the neighbor’s driveway, a deer bounded across the road and over the fence into the pasture.

Where it joined four others if its species.

In all there were two does, two youngsters (spring fawns) and . . .

Yes, a legal buck. Notice him keeping his head down, trying to blend in with the girls. Not very bright, to be out in the daylight this time of year. Oh, but wait a minute: deer see a single car on an otherwise deserted road and jump in front of it instead of waiting until it passes.

I was just sure that the entire bunch were going to bound back into the road and up the hill just as Tom arrived and wipe out our new pretty! And in fact, four of the five did. Fortunately he saw them and had time to stop.

Our new little home-away-from-home.

Does this picture make my butt look big?

The People Kennel?

Several recent escapades by grandpuppies who went walkabout has made us more wary of safety and confinement of the C-Myste residents.  Kady and Audrey in particular have been good at escaping from the (apparently) inadequate field fence.

Before . . .

We decided that we were tired of chasing dogs who go through fences and who want to go down to the creek to play with the coyote cousins.  After twenty-one years it was time to upgrade.

. . . After

Front and back.

Tom says “We’re in a cage !”

But it should keep the dogs in.

The question is . . .

Will it keep other visitors out?

Probably the skunks, though neither the deer nor the raccoons.

Galveston, oh Galveston

Sunday we didn’t fly out until 6:30 p.m., so had some more touristing time. Thanks again to Tavia and Matilda for their hospitality. Well maybe not so much to Matilda. I don’t know when I’ve sung so many silly songs and nursery rhymes trying to keep a cranky back-seat partner smiling.

I didn’t want to have gone all that way and miss seeing the Gulf of Mexico and touching the waters, so we started the day with a drive out to Galveston.

Flat white sand beach, carnival atmosphere. You can park your car right on the beach.

Tavia had to retrieve her hat when it blew away, and was escorted back by hungry and persistant gulls.

Even the seagulls are different in Texas. Note the black head.

Off-shore drilling rigs on the horizon.

A flock of the naughty gulls.

The gentle waves were only lake-sized. I realize that it's different during a storm.

A very different ocean than what we know on the Pacific Coast.
